The upside down parakeet – Santosh Bakaya

The upside down parakeet – Santosh Bakaya

Life was a mess, and I was lost in the wilderness.
Maybe my subconscious had found an escape route for me.
Hey, what was that?
I could see the sharp blue sea,
winking at me through the palm fronds,
and sky blue wild lilies smiling up at me
from serene looking ponds.
Parakeets and cockatoos trying to spice things up.
What was up? One parakeet hung upside down from a tree,
looking at me from the corner of its eye.
Perhaps wondering whether it had succeeded
in putting a smile to my parched lips-
Lips which, had of late, forgotten the art of smiling.
The bright sun took upon itself the mammoth task
of serenading me with its sunny song,
making diamonds and blinking asterisks
all over the surface of the sea.
And I smiled, basking in this joy newfound.
The seasons are changing, someone whispered.
Yes, Yes- I could sniff harmony in the ambient breeze.
The parakeet was back in its normal posture, sitting smug,
happy at a job well-done.
