Santasil Das’s poems translated by Debkumar Mukhopadhyay

1/
When you bind yourself
Within a created limit,
darkness surrounds your life
Unabated.

2/
Darkness doesn’t go
On recitation of sermons.
Open the door
And there is light all around.

3/
When newspaper doesn’t reach
My hand
I become restless
And once my reading is over
I feel depressed, more depressed.

4/
Yellow leaves fall from trees
One by one,
Green leaves take their place,
Nothing ends in this earth
For ever,
That’s why I love myself.

5/
I cannot touch the moon
In the sky.
Don’t bother,
My room is full of moonlight.
