Youth – Jagari Mukherjee

Youth – Jagari Mukherjee

I dream of summer evenings
of youth, conjuring
candy swimsuits in a
cobalt-calm pool
understars sequinned on
a velvet sky.

(Flowers bloomed in bright washes
of peacock and yellow
and magenta and orange
only for the four of us…)

Is it my imagination,
or most of the leaves
are already snowflake-shaped?
Others have been quilled,
perhaps by us.

My canvas details blues
of many shades with a dream
of the intervening two decades
each night. It plays in my head
like a record on repeat.
