Ketaki Datta

 Dr. Ketaki Datta is an Associate Professor of English, Bidhannagar College[Govt], Kolkata. She is a novelist, short story writer, critic and a translator. Her debut novel “A Bird Alone” has won rave reviews in India and abroad. Her poems have been published in anthologies published by Brian Wrixon, Canada and in Pangolin Review, books edited by Padmaja Iyengar and P. Gopichand and P. Nagasuseela.. Her second novel “ One Year for Mourning” has been acclaimed, here and abroad. She had been to Lisbon on an invitation from IFTR [Ireland chapter] in 2009, to read out a paper titled “Human Values and Modern Bengali Drama”, which got published in the Festival Issue of The Statesman in India. “Indo-Anglian Literature: Past to Present” [Booksway, 2008], “New Literatures in English: Fresh Perspectives”[Book World, 2011],  “Selected Short Stories of Rabindranath Tagore in Translation”[Avenel, 2013], “ The Black and Nonblack Shades of Tennessee Williams”[ Book World, 2012] , “ Sahitya  Akademi Award winning English Collections: Critical Overviews and Insights”[Authorspress, 2014] “The Last Salute” [Sahitya Akademi, 2013], “ The Voyage” are a few of her notable publications. Her two translated stories into English have been included in “ Anthology of Bengali Short Stories” , Ed. Sunil Gangopadhyay, English Translation edited by Prof. Sanjukta Dasgupta, Sahitya Akademi, 2016.  She has a book of poems , “ Across the Blue Horizon” [Feedaread Publishers, UK, 2014].Her short story has been selected for publishing in New Asian Writing Anthology, 2013. She has also been interviewed by NAW [New Asian Writing]. She is the only contributor from India in the book titled “Routledge Companion to Dramaturgy”, compiled by Prof. Magda Romanska of Emerson College, Boston, USA. The book saw the light of day in 2015. She has participated in numerous National and International Conferences. In 2016, she had been to University of California, Santa Barbara, to read out a paper on  Terrorism and Literary Response to it, on an invitation from  Prof. Wilfred Raussert, Convener, !V Biennial Annual Conference of International Association of Inter-American Studies.. She is Regional Editor for India of Theatretimes.com, founded by Prof. Magda Romanska. Her book of poems and photography has just been out from Bielefeld University , Germany, along with joint authorship of Prof. Wilfried Raussert[ Urban Reflections: Poetry and Photography in Dialogue]. She is a contributor to “The Partition of India: Beyond Improbable Lines” ed.by Prof.Daniella Rogobete and Prof. Elisabetta Marino[2018]. She had been to St. Hilda’s College ,University of  Oxford, as a paper-presenter in 2017. “Oral Stories of the Totos” , her research work on the tales of the Toto tribe, has been published in December 2021 by Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi.
