Born on April 9, 1952, hailing from Kolkata, Maitra’s foray into the world of translation began with his debut as a translator of notable works by authors like Ernest Hemingway and Howard Fast, translating them into Bengali. Some of his notable works include Gaandharva: Poems of Sankha Ghosh, published by Paschimbanga Bangla Academy, and Wrong Number and Other Stories of Mahasweta Devi, published by Seagull, Calcutta.
