  কাঞ্চন কুমার মুখোপাধ্যায়ের জন্ম মুর্শিদাবাদ জেলার রামপাড়া গ্রামে। তিনি বহরমপুর গোরাবাজার আই. সি ইনস্টিটিউশন থেকে জেলা বৃত্তি নিয়ে স্কুল ফাইন্যাল, বহরমপুর কে এন. কলেজ থেকে প্রথম ডিভিশনে আই এ পাশ, কলকাতা প্রেসিডেন্সী কলেজ থেকে অর্থনীতিতে বি.এ ও কলকাতা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় থেকে এম. এ পাস করেন। কিছুদিন আনন্দবাজার পত্রিকায় Executive Trainee হিসাবে কাজ করার পর ১৯৬৬ সালে স্টেট ব্যাঙ্ক অফ ইন্ডিয়ার প্রবেশনারী অফিসার হিসাবে যোগদান করেন।স্টেট ব্যাঙ্কে বিভিন্ন পদে কাজ করবার সময় তিনি ব্যাঙ্ক অফ ভুটানের ম্যানেজিং ডিরেক্টর ও টেকনিক্যাল অ্যাডভাইসর হিসাবে প্রায় চারবছর ভূটানের ফুন্টশোলিঙে ছিলেন। পরে ২০০১ সালের নভেম্বর মাসে স্টেটব্যাঙ্কের জেনারেল ম্যানেজার হিসাবে কেন্দ্রিয় অফিস থেকে অবসর গ্রহণ করেন। পেশায় ব্যাঙ্কার হলেও সাহিত্য ছিল তার নেশা। কিশোর বয়স থেকে তিনি কবিতা, গল্প, রম্যরচনা ইত্যাদি লিখতে শুরু করেন। তার লেখা গল্প, কবিতা, রম্য রচনা ইত্যাদি কলকাতা, মুম্বাই ও বাংলাদেশের বিভিন্ন পত্র পত্রিকায় প্রকাশিত হয়েছে। বইগুলি হল – সোনার ঝাঁপি, ঘুম ভাঙানিয়া (কাব্যগ্রন্থ), গুলতানি (রম্যরচনা), ছড়ার মালা ও গল্পগাছা।
