Visual Anthropocenes
₹500.00Add to cartWhen Paul Crutzen and Eugene Stoermer proposed the term Anthropocene at the turn of the millennium, they gave geology a name for what many disciplines had already begun to recognise: that human activity had become a force visible in strata, ice cores, atmospheric chemistry, and planetary transformation (Crutzen and Stoermer 2000). The concept quickly became a cultural and narrative problem as much as a geological one, raising questions about how environmental transformation is experienced, represented, remembered, and resisted. This volume, Visual Anthropocenes, begins from the premise that literature, cinema, television, and popular culture are not simply illustrations of an ecological crisis first defined by science; they are among the cultural forms through which the Anthropocene becomes intelligible, giving narrative structure, bodies, landscapes, and futures to processes that otherwise appear only as abstract measurements and planetary statistics.

The Bard in Retrospect
₹500.00Add to cartThe essays collected in The Bard in Retrospect explore the many ways in which Shakespeare’s works continue to resonate in modern and contemporary culture. Rather than approaching Shakespeare solely as a canonical literary figure of the past, the contributors examine how his texts function as living cultural resources that are constantly reimagined across artistic media, intellectual traditions, and global contexts. The volume brings together scholars working across different disciplines including literary studies, film studies, cultural studies, visual studies, and digital humanities. Through these diverse perspectives, the book highlights the continuing vitality of Shakespearean thought in contemporary critical debates.

The contemporary landscape of socio-cultural production is characterized by a dynamic tension between the forces of transcendence and transgression that enable us to question the boundaries of knowledge, power, and identity. These ideas have long fascinated scholars across disciplines, serving as pivotal lenses through which one analyzes societal transformation, artistic innovation, and media phenomena. This edited volume emerges from a transdisciplinary seminar that was held on March 27 and 28, 2024 organized by the Department of English, Sister Nivedita University.
